Science education in Bangladesh



Number of students in science group in Bangladesh is decreasing day by day. Once, the meritorious students were willing to study in science group. With time, students are not willing to study hard as they are attracted by different national and multinational privet sectors with handsome salaries and benefits by studding business and arts group with lot less efforts. 

 

According to the report of Bangladesh Bureau of Education, the science education in Bangladesh is decreasing terrifyingly. They found many middle school students do not feel interested studding in science. They found less than 20 % of students chose science in grade 9. However, a plethora number of them have been dropped before grade 10 public exam or after. An overwhelming number of students chose business group in grade 11 or in higher study. More or less, the reasons are the middle school does don’t able to grow interest them about science, most of the rural schools do not have well scientific laboratories and infrastructures or well-trained teachers. Also, science study is expensive. Several institutions do not have science group at all although, they have business and humanities department. 

 

However, after secondary study or graduation, A plethora of science students find their destination in abroad for higher study and they become settled in abroad. Nowadays, only in USA, more than 15000 students go for their higher studies. Recently, a number of students go to India, China and European countries for higher study, and they do not like to come back to home country with their knowledge and expertise. There is no or very less opportunities in Bangladesh to enter in senior positions in government sector and the entry positions are age restricted. 

 

With this all situations, the future of science and technology is appalling. Government should run different science activities to attract the student in science in tender age. They also should change their policies to attract the foreign experts by creating different opportunities by creating the different senior positions for expert scholars.
